Canning jars glass is great for a whole bunch of things. Can your food from your garden or even can your dehydrated food in them also. I have done lots with all my jars. They all come in many sizes and even the size of the neck can be different also. I know I didn’t really know how to can right away, I had to do some research on it first. Know what you need to do this and you basically need the basics of this to get started. So many possibilities for your canning jars glass-all different kinds of food you can either water bath or pressure can. Again do your research so you know what you are doing.
Costs alot for the Jars
In the beginning they are costly and remember it is an investment. Cause they are not just a one-time use, if taken care of they will last years. Now, I have found that some people are pretty picky on what they want to buy secondhand.
I was Getting rid of My Jars Because I had so Many
I went through all my jars to figure out how many extra jars I had. Wow, I sure did have lots. I found that I had many boxes of jars I had forgotten about. I ended up posting on Marketplace to sell. Some were a full set of quart jars or half pints. Of course, who showed up wanted me to lower the price for them. I thought $5/box was a far price for canning jars.
Find many want canning jars for free, and of course don’t want to buy in store. But all my canning jars were standard size and were in a box and had rings too. So I didn’t think that was fair and I stuck with my post price. Someone came and got them all later and was shocked for the price I was asking. She said I was practically giving them away. I am glad she was happy with the quart jars lot she had bought from me.
Two Great Deals of Jars I bought and Found
I had recently found a full set of Gem quart jars for $2-full 12 jars with the rings too. I was shocked, the lady I bought them from said they were only used a few times and then they were in storage the rest of the time. The jars were in great shape. I had also had another great deal of a full dozen of small jars for $2 too. Great full set with rings included.
Another great deal was finding 2 and a half sets of wide mouth jars-500 ml jars. Even better deal was that these were free. Oh and even better, they were ones with the decorative print oh and some had the rings too. Found these at the side of the road. I was in the right place at the right time.
I have found many odd quart jars all through out the years. Many people just give away jars that they don’t want. And most times, someone has made them something and they don’t give the person back their jar. I would love to have my jars back if I made something and gave it away. I think that is what people should remember when they take a gift from someone. The jar is part of a set and the person can reuse this jar. Just remember who you got it from is all.
Canning Jars For Sale In Bulk
There are so many places to find some for sale in bulk. But you need to make sure they are the correct size and the right thickness. Also that they are able to be used for canning or even just decoration. Many jars that are sold can only be used for decoration, so be careful and know which ones you are buying.
I know some places sell canning jars only in bulk. Great if you are just starting canning or one that gives your creations away. Always running out of canning jars then this is an awesome find when you find it. Wow, the jars I found were great. The size I needed and the exact ring size too. I sure did stock up that day. So when I randomly find something I wasn’t looking for, I take it as a blessing. And never walk away from it and I make sure that I buy it then and there.
Canning Jars Gallon Size
Now gallon size I have used a few, as the cost is way different than just normal quart jars and canning jars. You can get a great deal when found for sale in bulk. These will seal when activated with heat. Great for so many uses such as kombucha brewing, sun tea, canning or even storing dry goods. I use mine for the dehydrated fruits that I make. They look beautiful on my canning shelf or even in my kitchen. Nice size jar and you would be surprised how much food or liquid they can hold.
I have also used these jars for putting my juice syrup in. So I can use in the fridge to make some juice to drink. It was great, but I did find I needed the date written on the jar. So I know how long it has been in the fridge, to make sure I would use before it went bad.
Yard Sales Are Great For Finding Jars
I had went to one great yard sale and found 4 cases of quart jars for $5 for the lot. Sure they didn’t have lids or rings. Was a fabulous find and was shocked of the price. So I had spoken to the people who was having the yard sale, and they didn’t know what the canning jars were for. Just that they were jars, and thought they weren’t reusable. I knew then what an even better deal I had. They were wondering why everyone was grabbing them up like crazy. They realized later, and I am glad I got some of them.
They were great jars and good condition. I was so happy with my great find for that day. Lots of washing and all after that.
My next one was a thrift store put vintage jam jars in the free bin. Not knowing what they even had at all, was a great find for me. Even a big thrift store in the city will sell jars at about $2 a jar, or even less. Just to get rid of them. So if you don’t go to yard sales then you may want to check out thrift stores for some good deals.
