A clean kitchen is what I always seem to want when the weekend gets here. Cause sunday is usually pancake day and I need a clean kitchen. When I think of this, where I first start is the counters.Or you can even add this to your everyday morning routine.
What I do On Sunday Pancake Day
I need my kitchen prepped when I start to make my pancake batter. What I do:
- All dirty dishes go into the sink
- clear things off the counters, don’t need to be there
- Fill a sink with dish soap/water for cleaning
- I wipe down the counters, cause I know they are still dirty.
- look what else needs a quick wipedown
- Start coffee in the coffee maker
All of this is just for my kitchen area to be clean so I can make my pancakes. If I am sitting and standing there, cooking pancakes. It just makes sense to have this area all clean. And it makes me feel better when the area is all clean.
Truth about Kitchen Cleaning (From Real Life)
So just to be honest, kitchens can get really messy really fast, and even more if you have a family. Cooking each day and at different times of the day.
I am the one that does all of the cleaning for my house-basement suite.
What I do need to focus on during the week:
- Quick easy daily resets
- A deep clean for the end of the week, I do probably every other week.
- Keep everything easy to keep up, and can be as simple as putting dirty dishes in the sink.
I find that Friday is the day I do more cleaning. Meaning I do a full steam of my counters, if I can’t do the whole kitchen. So I am waking up on Saturday to a clean, nice smelling kitchen. Enjoying my Sunday with less stress, but an easier cleaning before cooking.
Remember, Don’t Forget the Microwave
The microwave is easy to forget, until you need it. Realizing when you opened it, it needs to be really cleaned.
What did your microwave have in it:
- Microwave popcorn
- pizza pockets
- leftovers
- Pizza slices
- hashbrowns and eggs
- spaghetti and sauce
The thing with reheating things and cooking things, the microwave soaks up those smells. And some times, just cheating and wiping down don’t work. It needs to actually be cleaned.
How to Clean a Microwave Easily
Don’t over-think it, you can do this and it’s easy:
- Water and vinegar-equal amounts- use a cup or container
- Heat till it steams-around a minute or longer.
- Let sit for a minute-to let it steam
- Wipe it all down after
The steam this creates will loosen all the burnt or stuck on food, while removing odors too.
Keep your Kitchen Smelling Awesome and Fresh
After all that cleaning, your kitchen now needs to smell nice.
Don’t cover odors but keep the air smelling nice. I have this in my kitchen:
- Wax melter-great smelling wax melts
- diffuser with essential oils-a great citrus like lemon is great.
The citrus scents are nice to use, makes it all smell so clean. Also, some citrus oils have some natural antimicrobial properties too. So using them is even better, even check out citric acid page

I thought about it and you know what. How about one simple thing to keep doing each day:
- Every night-any dishes put in sink
- wipe the counters down every night
- empty the trash
- tidy up the counters
Simple and easy and just wipe down with dish soap and water before bed. Why?
Or if you like you can also use All-Purpose Cleaner to clean the counters.

- Reduces the smells
- Morning is more calm and your at peace
Imagine how you would feel-if you did all this before bedtime? I know I feel great, and ready to start my day. Not dreading it cause I look at my messy kitchen. I know make a point of tidy and cleaning it each night, it is a work in progress.
But very possible.
My Final Thoughts: Clean Kitchen, Clear Mind.
A clean kitchen doesn’t take hours. As I used to think.
- Clear as you go
- Reset each day
- Do a weekly deep clean
For me it comes back to my Sunday mornings. I am making pancakes for my Family and have coffee brewing. I need to have a good clear space to feel great in.
Just start in a spot in the kitchen that bothers you the most. Stay consistent and keep doing this new habit to keep your kitchen clean too.
No need to be stressed, in a place you spend most of your time in.
