Crochet and knit slippers are on people’s minds lately. Cold weather and we need to find ways to stay warm. Have you looked into getting slippers? Or even getting someone to make you some. But it is expensive when you ask someone to make them, so it is just cheaper to buy them. That is one of the reasons why I wanted to learn to knit slippers. I find knitting them easier, but if your not careful you may drop your stitches off your needle. When that happens to me I usually just give up and crochet them instead.
If you do not know how to crochet or knit, getting someone else to make them for you may be an option. A person that has the know-how on how to read these instructions on making you some slippers.
Crochet and Knit Slippers Are Great!!
I love how easy it is the whip up some slippers, and they go great with your crochet blankets. When you have a tile floor is what I have, my feet get cold so I need slippers. Easy to do while you catch up on your pvr recordings or watch a movie. I will be making some more slippers again since now it is fall time.
I will have to make a couple pairs for myself this fall, to keep my feet warm. I may try making them with Pentex yarn, as I found a whole bunch of this yarn. Love the colors I have also, and this yarn is typically used for slippers also. I want to find the right easy pattern that I can knit, as it looks so simple. I just do not like dropping stitches. I guess practice makes perfect, and I just need to get going at it. I did make some knit slippers, or I started because stitches dropped and I took it all apart.
I know I do not have much time in a day, but I make the most of it. I work from home and I love it here. My own time and I am here for my kids and grandchildren. Anyone can work from home.
Starting Your Slippers
You pick your own colors and make your own size and you decide how they will look. Start out with a basic pattern and get the feel for making them. The more you make, the more you will notice that it is almost the same pattern each time you make some. The heel and toe are almost all the same, just depending on the size. As I noticed this when I made a few baby booties from different patterns.
Crochet and knit slippers are a great addition to have when you are watching tv, or just walking around your house. Good way to keep your feet nice and toasty warm.
Most patterns are easy to read, and not that complicated. But some are too complicated at times. I usually pick crochet because I am still learning knitting. Not that I don’t understand, it is just that I get mad when I drop a stitch. Or I lose my stitches off my needle. So crocheting is always easier for me. But test for yourself and see crochet or knitting is for you.
I have made a few last year. Not that complicated kind of pattern, but very simple one. I looked up on YouTube for a simple easy slipper video to watch. So I could pause and play when needed.
Material For Slippers
I made my slippers last year out of regular acrylic yarn. Or you can call it knit worsted yarn. The basic yarn you buy in your local Walmart or Michael’s.
So this was made with this yarn. Single yarn, not doubled. So it looked great, my slippers looked like slippers. But as they were worn on my feet. I noticed that they started to wear out. Thinning at the heel and a bit at the toes.
So I needed to look for a better yarn for crochet and knit slippers.
HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT PHENTEX YARN- WHICH IS 100% OLEFIN YARN.
This yarn, I didn’t realize I already had a whole bunch of it. I had bought this yarn at yard sales. Or it was even just given to me. Alot of people never knew that this yarn, appeared to look scratchy. Was the same exact yarn you would use to make slippers.
I probably have a whole box of this yarn. Looking online, it is under $4 for one skein of it. So I probably have over 15 of these.
This yarn doesn’t lose its color, mold resistant. keeps its shape. A great (medium) yarn to work with. Which means that it is great for slippers.
There are a lot of colors to choose from when you are wanting to look into getting this yarn to make your crochet and knit slippers.
They wash up great and will last a very long time, way longer than if you just used knit worsted yarn. So this would be the yarn for all your future slipper projects.
Making Baby Booties
Now when I found out my daughter was gonna have a baby. My grandchild, which later we found out was my grandson.
I was on a mission to make him some little booties. Now, I went a little crazy on making them. Out of all these cute colors and different yarns. I made about 4 pairs of baby booties.
Let’s just say that my grandson, never wore them longer than 10 minutes. Babies can’t keep little booties on their feet. He is now almost a year old now. I might make him some again. Not sure, cause he will be walking soon. Also, the floor where he lives is slippery, being wood. So unsafe anyways.
Might just make some just so he can have some for going out or something. Just because they are so darn cute. Keepsakes if he never does wear them. Now, I might need to start with some new ones now. As I just found out that I will be having a granddaughter to enjoy soon. So maybe some light purple booties I may be making. As I don’t think my daughter will want pink booties. I might actually just make a nice size crochet blanket and get some nice yarn and pretty colors.
