Dehydrate Your Vegetables and Fruit

Dehydrate your vegetables and fruit before you even have time to use them. You can still save them, by dehydrating them. If you don’t own a dehydrator, you can just freeze most of it. Depending on what you have to save.

A dehydrator is a great product to own. I owned a few, and never really used them. I didn’t know how at first. Cause mine was a simple one, just plug it in and forget it. No timer or even a temperature dial on it, or even a fan.

Getting A Dehydrator Is a Great Investment

If you are going to buy one, get one with a temperature dial and a fan. Also, many shelves too. Bigger the better, you will be glad that you did. I started very small. Two shelves on it, no fan. Was good only for a few apples that was it. Lots of work, all week to get everything done.

Bigger the better, because you will be using it a lot. Even if it is just to save your garden produce, out of your own garden. After you put all that work in to have a garden. You want to be able to enjoy it all year round, then this is the way to go.

Unless you can, your produce. That is always good too. But only last so long on the shelf. Dehydrated actually lasts longer on the shelf, and is so versatile also.

Dehydrating Is Great!!!

The possibilities are endless!!!

  • sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon
  • pears
  • watermelons
  • oranges
  • mangoes
  • tomatoes
  • potatoes
  • sliced zucchini
  • even marshmellows

Even Make Your Own Herbs!

Dry herbs if you have an herb garden. Or even buy them.

How About Making Your Own Spices?

  • Onion Salt= dried onions mixed with salt
  • Garlic Salt= dried garlic mixed with salt
  • tomato powder= dried tomato slices made into a powder

If you want another way to save your fruit, you can make a simple syrup with them also. That is another way to use up your fruit, either use it for a base for a drink. Or you can further reduce it and use it for pancakes. It is up to you, how your family will use it.

Alot of ways to save some more money with what you have on hand.

Or even, if you have a reduced section at your local grocery store. This is a great way to build up your supply of dried goods or even canned goods. Which ever one you choose to do.

They are all great options to have some great food for the winter, or even just to simply save you some money in the long run.

When I am busy during canning time, I need something to keep me going. That is this great snap, I love it so much. Keeps me motivated and helps me to keep going with my busy day.

Most Of My Garden Got Dehydrated

My garden had lots of tomatoes, which I dehydrated alot of tomatoes. But first I did can most of them. Got so much of that, and still had more tomatoes coming. So I dried them.

Having lots in your garden is awesome to have, drying almost all of it is a great way to save them. You can even grow a bigger garden next year, knowing what you know now.

How About Dehydrating Older Freezer Vegetables??

YES!! I did that, just to free up space in my deep freezer. Wow, did it ever work great. So great I found myself looking for more to dry.

  • corn on the cob
  • peas
  • store-bought green beans
  • frozen strawberries
  • store-bought corn
  • green and yellow beans

I was surprised how much space I saved. I made enough room in my freezer to stock up on my meat for winter time.

All I need to do is re-hydrate my veggies so I can use when I need them. Saved money on them, by them not getting freezer burnt. And having to buy more to replace what I lost in my freezer. Either from getting buried or just not eaten soon enough.

So I see it as a Win-Win on both prospects. So in my opinion a dehydrator is a great investment. You can use it all year around.

Need A Quick Snack

  • dehydrated apple slices
  • ” pear slices
  • dried plums
  • sliced and dried pineapples

The list goes on and on. So use your imagination on all the healthy fruit you could be eating. Better than a bag a chips or a bag of popcorn. Your waist will thank you for the healthy choice.
