Do I Need To Wear Makeup?

When growing up I always thought do I need to wear makeup? My mom always wore makeup and I don’t really know of many times that she was not. Along with all the commercials I seen when I was growing up, seemed like we are supposed to wear makeup. I thought that mainly cause of so many commercials I had seen, and even billboards in town.

All up to you to wear or not. I have recently realized I don’t see so many ads on makeup as much as I used to see them. There were so many at one time, that whenever you were watching a show you knew for sure the commercial would be for makeup. Now I think I see more RedBull Commercials than anything.

Looking to save on what you are getting, or even just something to try. I know beginning is the struggle and of course we don’t want to shell out money for something that may not work for what you need. This place to save is easy:

Makeup Commercials Used to Be Everywhere

If you were watching a show, you know for sure you would at least see about ten makeup ads in that time. May be even less, cause I did not count how many ads I had seen. I usually walked away from the tv when they came on. I always wondered why we always had to see Maybelline commercials. Then I noticed they changed to Covergirl commercials. And over time I see Queen Latifah doing Covergirl think it was for lipgloss.

When I was younger, I seen many foundation makup commercials. Even the Billboards I see too, seems like they were on every street I went down on. Also, on transit buses too. Seems like all I ever seen back then was alot of advertising. Now maybe they have all went online cause the commercials are all different since 20 years ago.

When is a good Age to Wear Makeup?

  • Personal interest– maybe starting to get curious about it and trying themselves. Playing with your makeup or watching you.
  • Social Influence-see others wearing some or they see the commercials.
  • Cultural-some actually will let you wear makeup early on. All depends.
  • Parental Guidance-I know Mom usually have a say in when you can or even how much. Sometimes it all has to do with what is allowed at your school. So your parents are the ones that would let a child know what is acceptable and how much. If you can even or not.

Usually they have some interest around 11-12 yrs old. Some just practice putting on lipgloss or chapstick and move onto lipstick if you even own some. I don’t buy lipstick myself, more of a chapstick person. Some start with mascara also, and that is a skill in itself to put on. Probably cause your trying to watch what your doing. And since its going on your eye lashes, that makes it even harder to focus on it.

That all depends, we are all different and all grew up in a different Society. Or our Mom raised us different than our friends. I am not sure what or who dictates when you can start wearing makeup. Even the generation you grew up in has something to do with it also.

I Do Paint My Nails I love all the colors

I have always painted my nails for as long as I can remember. I used to have really long nails, up til I had my first baby. It was hard to care for a baby and worry about breaking a nail or two. I have a good collection of polishes and some of them are my favorites I love. I don’t paint my nails as much as I used to. Because now I do alot of typing when I work and I know my nails chip more often now.

I know do my nails once a week, or sometimes just use a base coat for them. I was looking into Gel Nails on Amazon, but I didn’t like how they need to be removed. I have had them done like this once, and they lasted for a long time. But you wait till your nails start growing to see your polish more to the tip. Then it is time to remove it, by filing it down and then peeling or chipping it off. Too much effort and waste of time, I thought.

So back to the basics of painting my nails, with good ole- nailpolish. Forget the Gel ones.

Watched My Mom And Her Routine

Think when we are young and growing up, have you watched your Mom without even knowing you were? I know I did, I never realized till later on that I did watch her. This was what I did every Saturday morning, I rushed into the bathroom to watch my mom do what she did. She already washed her face, and then she was caring for her face after that. That is what I watched and asked questions, why she did do what she does.

Apply lotion to her face to protect it from the elements outside(sun, wind, etc.) After this, she would continue putting the rest of her face on as she said. Which was her foundation cream/stick and concealer, then her eye shadow and light beige lipstick. After that was all done, she did her hair. She usually curled it, she only needed to refresh her curls. Because she put it in rollers the night before.

I do now realize that she actually did this every day, not just on a Saturday. I see myself doing a routine of my own each day also. Of course, set for what I need to do for myself. I realized that I have a routine for every day, no matter if it is starting my day or ending my day. I think we all have one and it helps us to get on with our day.

What Do I use Each Day?

I know I used to wear makeup when I was growing up. As I got older, I realized it was taking so much of my time to get ready in the morning. Also, from my experience my makeup ends up getting sweated off in a couple of hours. Then I needed to do it all over again. Then the cost of the makeup I was buying and how often I was buying it. Now that sure opened my eyes on the money I spent. To just end up washing it down the drain.

So I stopped buying foundations and consealers and went to just eye liners. I used to wear mascara, but I didn’t like how my eye lashes stuck together all the time. Now this of course is my experience and others are different. Maybe I didn’t know how to apply it correctly or was using it wrong. Or I didn’t brush it on properly. Who knows.

But it seemed like to much of a hassle and again, just my experience.

My Experience with Mascara- Or the Horror of it!

I was out downtown shopping with my son, he was about one years old. I thought it would be a good day to ride the buses. Stay close to the route so I didn’t need to walk much. My son usually would use a stroller, but i thought he would be ok walking. I did bring a small umbrella stroller, just in case he needed a break from walking. Or even me too, cause we were in a busy part of the City.

So we were shopping every where, and I didn’t go home when I knew I should have. I just had one more store to go to. I thought that big rain cloud above would not do anything. Boy, I was so wrong. Cause I caught the bus and went to a store I needed to go to. It was directly under the rain cloud by the time I got there. I didn’t know this till I got off my bus.

We walked across the street and that’s when the downpour came. Oh my god, the rain was coming down in sheets. We were right in it, and I needed to make it across the street. Oh and get this, I couldn’t remember if I put mascara on or not. I quickly looked at my reflection in the mirror and seen I looked fine. So I thought I forgot to put it on today.

But when I got into the store all eyes were on me. Cause I did have mascara on, and now it has run all down my face. So my face was all black when I got inside the store and didn’t even know. Someone brought me a towel and showed me the bathroom so I could clean up. I was so thankful and this may be one of the times I regretted wearing mascara.

Just know that mascara now is water-proof, no need to worry about this happening to you. But it did happen, and I was not the only one.

What Do I Wear Now

Well that would be some sunscreen if I know I will be outside. If not, then I wear just lotion. Of course this would be for my face. I used to wear eye liner, that was the only makeup I would wear. Now, since I have gotten older and realize I don’t need that stuff. I do wear perfume though, love it. I wear it everyday and love even the scented lotions for after bath time.

Love the scents, and so many coming out all the time. But the perfume lasts along time, and of course I do have my favorites. I do love going the Bath & Body Works, they have some great body sprays. Oh and some great lotions too, and even hand sanitizers also. The scents that comes out of this store when your in the Mall-oh its amazing. The smell alone is enough to make you go and take a look. Just as bad as when you smell fresh popcorn, you just have to go see where it is.

Now basically is all I wear now is lotion, and some perfume or body spray. I know from my experience that I like quick and easy morning routine. Something that does not take a lot of time and effort. Can’t be wasting time on this when I could be doing something better. That’s why when I think do I need to wear makeup? No, I don’t. It is up to me and what I feel comfortable with.

Just Remember when You think-Do I need to wear makeup? No you don’t. You need to be just you.

We are all different, and come in different packaging. We don’t need to follow the commercials or ads we see. Be geniune and be yourself inside and out. Do what is comfortable for you and not how others see you. Your not here to impress others you are here to be you and only you.

Remember to take care of yourself and get enough sleep. Taking care of you is working on your own beauty from the inside out. You will wake up all refreshed the next day, and be ready to start with being all rested. And not looking like you just rolled out of bed.
