Easy Ideas For Canning

Easy ideas for canning is what I am thinking about right now. As canning season comes upon us, we need simple easy ideas for that. Where will we start, and what will we can, fruit or vegetables.

easy ideas for canning

Right now, it is Spring time, and we are just starting to grow a garden. Which we will have lots of bush beens, and tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers. Right now, I have lots of strawberries, which we are just eating.

How to do pickled beets is not that hard to do. You do need vinegar of course, and beets too. So maybe you have lots from your garden, or are like me and went to a local farm and bought some. Now I never did try to pickle beets before, till someone showed me how easy it was to do. Taste better then store bought, but your house sure does smell like vinegar. Once you start making these yourself you will not be buying store bought anymore. Unless you are the only one eating them, and now it is too much work. So why not just buy from the store or just make a smaller batch.

Do remember that these are canned and will last you all year. So that is the joy of all the work you do to get these done. And if you plant your own garden and grow your own beets, now you have a way to have them all year. All your hard work of working your garden is not lost. Sure will love these come winter time and you save your money from not buying in store beets. Also, taste way different too!!!

When I think of easy ideas for canning, making pickled beets happens to be one of them. Then the fruit syrup.

Easy Ideas for Canning

  • Canning Rhubarb
  • Make your own applesauce
  • Make your own fruit sauce-using any fruit you like
  • Can your own pie filling
  • Can some fruit like cherries

Canning Rhubarb

Lots of rhubarb too, and I have a friend that had canned some. To later add to a crumble or even a cake. So I will have to look more into canning rhubarb, is it as easy as canning any other fruit? Hmm, maybe another easy ideas for canning is doing rhubarb.

  • Need about 2 pounds of rhubarb for One Quart or 2 Pints of canned rhubarb. Is what you can think about how much rhubarb you will need. Or maybe how much rhubarb you have will give you how many jars of canned rhubarb.
  • Basically 3 cups of raw sliced rhubarb will give you one pint of canned. If that helps you too. One pint jar will give you a 9″ x 9″ crisp or even a quart for a pie.
  • I want to try the canned rhubarb with some frozen strawberries. Since we all know how sour rhubarb is. Can always use some sweetening, unless you are one that likes the sourness. But we all need some sweet in our life, am I right?

If you’re going to use a water bath canner, just make sure you have enough water in the canner to cover the jars. That you added to the canner, bring to boil, boil for 10 minutes to sterilize the jars.

Once sterilized you can remove the jars and put the water back into the canner. Now you have your jars ready to use for your canning recipe.

  • Rhubarb needs little sugar added to it, added to the cut rhubarb in a pot. Just need to heat up your rhubarb and sugar to add to your jars-this is hot pack method. Rhubarb basically need to be in the canner for 10 minutes after it boils.

Can your rhubarb however you do that, by what your family does, or a recipe book you found. As long as you get it all done, and make the most of it when winter comes. You will be grateful for the work you do now, and you made the time to get it all done.

Making Applesauce

Now when I first made applesauce I thought it was so difficult to do. So I just rather go and buy it in the store. It was easy and already made. My kids like it on their pancakes. Some like it on pork chops. But I never tried that yet. This is probably on of my favorite easy ideas for canning ever.

  • So it is fairly easy to make some applesauce, just peel and slice your apples. Add to a pot, with a little water, after it softens. You would add some sugar, cook on low-medium heat. So the sugar can dissolve, taste to see if you have enough sugar. If not, you can add some more. Done.
  • Take off the heat, and let this cool down. Store in a container, and eat when you wish for some applesauce. Or you can even go as far as to can it, I only place in a water bath canner, for 10-15 min. Take out and let sit for 24 hours. Easy. I don’t get as far as canning it, as my kids eat it all before I even get that far.

Make a Simple Syrup out of Fruit

  • How to make some simple syrup, for whatever you chose to use it for. Some use it for pancakes, or just to add to water for flavour. Or even if your one to have a SodaStream, you can flavour your sparkling water with a syrup.

Homemade pear sauce is pretty easy to make. If you know how to make applesauce, then you have it made. Same process, just that you’re using pears instead.

Canning Vegetables

Now I just recently had someone mention to me, about canning vegetables. When I think about that, I automatically think of tomatoes, which are not ready yet (form the garden). But we do have lots of carrots, celery, onions.

  • basic vegetable soup base– carrots, celery, and onions, maybe even throw in some tomatoes(even can tomatoes)
  • Simple tomato sauce/spaghetti sauce– tomato, onion, celery, green pepper, and garlic.

So this is something I will be looking into making very soon. If not right now, then I will wait till I can get some tomatoes from my garden. And get some celery and onions.

We need to find some easy ideas for canning that way we build up our Cannings for winter. Be able to not have to spend so much on fresh vegetables at the store, when all you need is veggies for soup. Or even some tomato sauce.

You will be very grateful for the work you did in the spring and summer to survive the winter of staying home If your stuck home right now, looking for ways to make some money? You can go here and check this out!
