Father’s Day

Father’s Day is a day when I think about my dad. Most celebrate their dad on this day. Either a party or a dinner the family will do to celebrate this day. I now I usually just take a moment out of my day to think about my dad. But we usually do spend time with my kids dad on this day. Usually it is a day event that is something for the whole family can do. We hiked on one year, or we do go sight seeing somewhere. Sometimes just a walk to the lake or just hang out.

Father's Day

But I think as long as some time is spent with the dad of the family, then its all good. Everyone does this differently, and that is ok. Celebrate with ballons just like any other party, letting others know you are celebrating.

What Do You Have For Father’s Day Dinner?

Usually it would be a pot roast and mashed potatoes and carrots or corn. Side of caesar salad and garlic bread. With pop to drink or juice. Would make a cake or pie for dessert. This was usually good if we did most of this in a slow cooker. Then this was all being made while we went out for the day. So it was nice to come home and know most of the dinner was already done.

If we had no plans or the weather was bad outside, we would make it a lunch instead of dinner. Usually making a potato salad and smokies that are bbq. Side of ceaser salad and garlic bread. Or even a hot dog roast or bbq. Or even a bbq at the lake or creek and we would go fishing, or I would go fishing. As that is my thing and not so much the kids. They come for the bbq and the snacks, and the enjoyment of getting out with dad. Cause he is only free on weekends, as he works alot and he is tired from his work in the wine field. He does alot of field work and he also enjoys the time he gets with us all. So we as a family try to plan something that we know we will all enjoy.

When Your Child Was Little What Did They Gift Dad?

My kids made animals out of their handprints. My son made this really nice one of a sailboat, was so beautiful. I know my daughter made a picture frame and her picture inside it. I know the paper tie was one year. The school had so many great ideas for Father’s Day and Mother’s day. I know their dad appreciated all the gifts that they have made.

I have one great picture of my son and his dad, taken when he was younger. He is looking up to his dad in the picture, and they are holding hands. Love that picture of them both. I also have a beautiful one of my younger daughter and her dad and she is sitting with him. We were on a trip to Ashcroft to get fruit and vegetables. Love that one also.

So when you see a moment you want to capture do it right then and there. No need to pose for these, they will happen. Just catch yourself admiring them and that is the moment you want to take a picture of. That is exactly how I captured these great pictures that we now cherish. Or I do at least.

Living in the Moment But Do Remember To Take Pictures

When kids are younger, we always just live in the moment. Never thought of taking pictures to capture that certain moment. Now, my kids are older and those times are gone, and I do wish I had my camera out more. Cause back then that is how I took pictures, especially of my now adult children. So many moments not captured and were missed.

Like I have taken photos of my older kids with their dad on Father’s Day. Their dad is the one that has those photos of course. I did not save myself any, as we had separated and ended up separating photos. So no matter what, for your children’s sake. Keep some pics for their own memories and add to there own photo album. Something I didn’t think of back them, but I do now.

But I cherish all the ones I do have, lots of memories and stories to share later on. So now that I have grandchildren to enjoy and I take pics whenever I can. Especially when they are not posing, and they are busy playing and having fun. I love looking at these always and tell myself how blessed I am to have my grandbabies with me and here always. I get to wake up with them and see them every day. So the more memories I can make the better.

Along side with my babies now, even though they are grown they are still my babies. They share in my capturing these memories also. They also love having their niece and nephew here with us each day. Love spending time with them and taking pics when they can. They love being there for them and help them when they need them. No matter what it is, even if it is just being pushed on the swings. Or even a walk to the school near by. Make take forever to get there, but they don’t mind and I know they love it.

Remember Take Pictures!

Celebrate the moment and take pictures. Tell the story later on and reminisce about what was done on that day. I love the one Father’s Day we had done. A trip to Kamloops, a 2-hour drive away from home. We had a getaway weekend and had Father’s Day there. Made a Pepsi can cake with bunch up of white socks for the icing. The cake consisted of 24 cans of Pepsi and socks. He loved it and the kids had fun making this cake. Had fun hiding the stuff from him and making sure he never peeked. Kids will have that story to share with him later on and remember the fun they had.

Love the pictures of that day.As this pic came up in my memories on Facebook. Sure been a while, but least we have that memory to show and share. Maybe create another great memory with creating a different kind of cake. Maybe a lotto ticket cake next, or maybe a taller pepsi cake and lotto ticket candles. I don’t know, but I will see what the kids are thinking for the next special day next year.

So remember when this day comes up each year, remember who you are celebrating. Make sure it is something he would love and it shows him also how much he is cherished. Also, do this every other day and not just this day. He loves knowing he is loved and not just needed. Just the same as Mother’s do feel like when Mother’s Day rolls around. I know I tell my kids, I want love all year around, and not just on this day. I went thru alot to bring you into the world and I need to be appreciated and loved too.
