Learning how to make a graphgan, is something I have been looking into making lately. Seems so simple, but then again so hard!! Basically you make a picture graph, and configure to a blanket.
You will use the graph you made and follow it, by each crochet stitch you make. The graph will tell you the color you need for the stitch placement you are at.
Starting a Graphgan
Recreating the graph print in a crochet blanket, is what you are trying to achieve. So if you can see a simple heart and balloon on a graph. Want that on a blanket, you can. Just choose your colors, so color your graph, and go from there.
Exactly, what is a graphgan?? Well, it is a crochet afghan pattern where you will use a graph or chart to get the results you want in your pattern.
Basically, they are so awesome. A beautiful picture on a crochet blanket. I have seen an actual picture of a dog, on a blanket. Asked how that was done, they said it was a graphgan. Was a really nice blanket, done in single crochet. All from a graph they made of the picture of the dog they had.
Now how does that sound, something that may be of interest to you?? Well I know it got my interest. Something, that I thought was a print transferred onto a crochet blanket. Like a photocopy on a sheet. But done on a blanket. If that is even possible, I don’t know.
So that is why I started to look into a graphgan, cause of this one blanket that I had seen. When I looked further into them, there are alot of blankets out there, that others made. Wow, you should go and research for yourself.
You will be amazed, what you can do with a crochet hook and different colours of yarn. Create a really pretty blanket of anything you want. Of course, if you are just starting with your first one. You would want it to be simple.
I know that is what I want to do. But I will chose to make a simple one. Meaning, I have decided on a throw pillow case, or dishtowel, full of hearts. I think hearts maybe simple enough. But I will only find out, if I just go and try for myself.
Seen graphgans made of tv stars and of singers. I had seen one of Elvis Presley, now that one was in black and white. It still looked hard, I can’t remember how long it took the person to make it. I think it would take a while. Dedication for sure, cause you would want to get it done. I still want to try learning how to make a graphgan, one of these days.
Take The Leap Yourself
Once you make your very first one, you will wonder why you never made one before. That is what I am thinking. Because I took the leap and learned how to do a c2c blanket. Basically, is a corner to corner crochet blanket.
The best and fastest way to make a blanket, and no chance of making it loop-sided either.
But I will still eventually take the leap and dig in and learn about making a graphgan. It does need some research and looking for some great designs also. There are some beautiful blankets made and I do want to make one some day. I will build up to it and start small, and go from there. Learning how to make a graphgan is one of my things I need to get done. I will tackle it soon enough, right now I am building my business. Which is lots of fun and doing this page is one of the fun things I get to do.
