New to gardening, where to start if probably the question you are asking yourself right now. I know it is a great idea, start your own garden. Now it can’t be that hard, can it??
I don’t know, it doesn’t seem that hard. All you need is some dirt, and some seeds. Or maybe you went to the store and got some plants, already started. That is the best way to go, especially if your just starting a garden for the first time.
Now having a very first garden, is a bit exciting. Your own garden, to grow your own vegetables. Or maybe your not going that far, and just want a flower bed. Or just a planter, or just pretty flowers outside. Now that is great too. Who doesn’t love flowers, and they bring the bees with them too.
We need the bees to pollinate your flowers, either on your flowers or your flowers on some of the vegetables. Bees are a great sign of the progress of your garden.
Where Do You Start??
Now, you say, you are new to gardening where to start?? Hmm, let’s just start to think of what you want to plant. Flowers or vegetables, it is your choice.
Well when I think about a garden, I think of where?? In the dirt, or do I want to go with planters? So last year, I went with planters. Cause I had no success with plants in dirt. So I thought I would try something different.
Hmm, well planters were great!! I watered them, they were located right outside my door. Which was very handy, and I never forgot to water them. But with them so close and well taken care of, guess who else loved them too. The Deer, they loved the well-taken care of plants I was growing. They thought was just for them because they helped themselves.
My tomato plants, didn’t have a chance, neither did my raspberries, some strawberries. I was just waiting for the tomatoes to grow some more, but the deer came. Ate the leaves, and knocked off all the tomatoes. They never ate them either.
Couple Years Ago I Planted
So couple years ago, I planted in the ground garden, and hoped it would turn out. Deer stay away this time, and my garden will be bigger this year also. But near the end of my tomato ripening, the deer found them. My carrots were good, and beets too. Spinach grew too fast, and flowered right away. My peas were great, and they were picked right away. Even my radish were great. So as I think now, I know I will need to add nutrients to my garden for each time I plant a garden.
So you can start your garden anyway you want to. Either in the ground or in planters, I may do planters this year. Before you choose, you need to find out what grows well in your area. Most plants are good. You also need to remember, full sun or light sun. Access to water also, and when and how much you need to water. I find that alot goes into doing your garden.
Once you get going, you will eventually have a beautiful flower garden or vegetable garden. It is all up to you and the choice you make. But do remember, enjoy this process. You can have lots of fun doing this, and have something to show for it. I know I want my garden to be better than last year. Last year, it was too hard to water it. Cause my garden was so far away, need to make sure I have lots of hoses this time. So a water set up is good, or a long hose to water your garden. It does need water.
So once you start this, you may be thinking of taking a break, why not a Healthy Energy Drink. Or maybe if that’s not what you want. How about a glass of Fine Wine. Your choice again, whatever your preference is. just enjoy!
So Do My Ideas Work?
Yes, sure they do as my in ground garden was great few years ago. My planter box with flowers were great. Now, I believe it mostly has to do with the weather and environment. Also, what you have previously planted in the spot your garden is going. Mainly, cause your garden plants will need nutrients. Sure you can add this to your garden too, and it is beneficial that way also. I do that when I actually before I add the plant to where its going.
Planter boxes are working great this year, flowers only. My tomatoes get eaten by the deer and don’t stand a chance. I only have 2 tomato plants this year. In some black canvas plant bags, they are growing in there. They did blossom, but then they were just stems. As the deer came and ate them. Maybe I should have just focused on cucumber plants.
I Want a Garden This Year
I should make the time to grow my garden. Figure out exactly what I want this year. I don’t like that I have deer that eat my tomato plants, so I never have any of those plants. I want to work on growing cucumbers and maybe zucchini. I know deer won’t eat those. I was thinking of growing my tomatoes in a green house all summer, but I think I may need to babysit it so they don’t overcook inside there. What else can I grow? Corn never works. I do love beets, and spinach. But with the cost of food especially veggies, a garden is a great idea.
I hope that I will have the motivation to get a garden this year. Even may just be cucumbers, and zucchini.
Another year 2025
Now, I still don’t know if I would like a garden. Well I would love to have a garden, but again Deer are the issue. Too many, and I know my tomatoes won’t stand a chance. Maybe just plant cucumbers and focus on that instead. Zucchini is always great to have, I love eating them. It is alot of work and I just don’t like wasting my time planting a garden to have it demolished by deer.
So I guess I need to figure out is it worth the effort. Hope for the best and hope that I get some cucumbers. I know my spinich seems to flower before it grows. Carrots maybe was another one, since it’s under ground it may stay and grow. I am new to gardening where to start when I have so many deer in my area. I have to think about that before I even think of planting anything.
Worth it?? Hmm, I love cukes and zucchini. Carrots good for winter stews, I can always freeze them too. I will think about it, but it is already May and I should start my cucumber plants already. Thinking just a planter and it’s all good.
