Struggle Parents Have are not ever mentioned, and are very real cause there are no instructions when you have your first baby. I never really got told what to expect or even what to do. I knew what I had learned at the hospital, that was about it. So I kinda knew what the basics with a baby were. Just not the whole thing of what to expect when I was home with the baby. Who knew that parenting and family went hand in hand?
I never really thought much past, just having a baby. I knew I had to care for it. But I never really thought past that thought, cause babies to grow up. YOU ARE THE ONE THEY LOOK UP TO. Never thought that when I first had my baby. I just was excited to be a mom, with a baby of my own!!
Christmas shopping is what has been on my mind. As it gets closer, we are all looking for ideas for the ones we love. Where to start?

Parenting & family
Sometimes, I think back I wish I knew what I know now. No one told me what to expect, I had to learn on my own, just like they did. Which back then I kind of thought that it was mean of them. Never tell me really anything about what to expect. But I guess that comes from being First Nations I guess. I don’t know, cause I don’t really know if this happened to others too. Get told nothing about what to expect when you first have your baby at home with you. That is what I think when I think about Parenting & Your Kids
But after that, I learned more about my baby as time passed. Went to the health unit or community building for parenting meetings. Basically, anything I could learn or talk with someone about what I needed to do for my baby. No internet back then had to rely on others or my library for books about babies.
When My Son Was Little
I always tell my son, I did the best I could raising you. My mom didn’t see that she had to help me with anything. She didn’t have her mom there to help her with me. So she decided she wasn’t going to be there for me. I would ask a question, I would get a standard answer. No help at all.
She made me figure it all out on my own. Especially when he wasn’t eating. I didn’t know how to get him to eat. Or even how to make him go to sleep, and in his own crib too. That was hard too and I always wondered if this was one of the struggle parents have. Or was it just me and I couldn’t figure out how to get it all done.
I ended up going to the library and looking up parenting books about babies. How to get them to eat when they should and sleep when they should. I had to find a way to make it happen. So I took my son to the library and read a lot while he was sleeping. As I did not own a computer or have the money to buy my own books either. No smart phones back in the 80’s, so I relied on books in the library.
Now, I have Grandchildren
I am there for my daughter, who now has a baby of her own. And no I did not make her go and do it on her own. I didn’t want her to experience what I had. To basically do it all on your own. I was there for her, right from the very beginning to when she told me she was pregnant. To now, in helping her with anything she doesn’t know how to do. Or what she should do. Even though she searches up on the Internet, she still values my opinion.
When you think about parenting & family. You think about your kids and you think about how you are parenting them. To become all that they can be, without you, when they are out there in the World, on their own. Knowing in your heart, that you had done a good job, and they will be fine.
