Travelling for less is something we would all love to do. But we really know that is just a dream, because the costs add up quickly. Between getting there with the transportation, accommodations, food, things to do, and of course shopping. A vacation takes alot and I know my budget don’t stretch that far. That is why when I can find some ways to travel for less I am all in. I know some fellow travellers that would love to hear about this too.

Now here is some good news, save money while your traveling doesn’t mean you won’t have fun. A little bit of planning and the right resources can help to reduce your travel expenses. Making you more happier and that means your less stressed and will have some more fun.

For all your vacation needs you can go and see what is here for you.

Travel for Less

Let’s Start with Your Accommodations

One of the biggest travel expenses is usually where you are gonna stay. Because I always look on the website or a hotel app, for a good deal. Of course, what’s the season right now? That is something to consider when your travelling. Sometimes its cheaper in winter, but we don’t travel in winter time.

Whether you book a hotel or motel, resort, a vacation rental, finding the right spot and rate makes the decision. It decides how far your money will go. Can you afford to travel far, or does it need to be close and is there space available for what your looking for. It for sure dips into your budget and sets the ground for the rest of the things.

Cause if your hotel is cheap but far away from your destination. You need to remember that you will need to do more driving, meaning more gas. Or will you be able to eat close, or again is that far away too?

So before you book, compare the prices and look for promotional specials, even travel savings programs. Even more savings if they have a member offer discounts. Even a bit of savings on your accommodations will leave you some extra money to spend elsewhere. Whether it be on dining, or your outings for your trip.

Plan Your Trip Before you Leave

Once you know when you have a date for your travel. It’s time to start planning all the things you need, to make this happen.

Now ask yourself:

  • Where are you wanting to go?
  • Are their attractions you want to see there?
  • Are there any local events happening while your their?
  • What restaurants are close by, or that you want to try?
  • What shopping stores are close by?

Planning ahead is great, so you know what your doing. You can check to see if you can find any discounts before you leave. And you will also have a peace of mind. Knowing some things to do or where to go.

Remember Travel Costs Add Up Quickly

Most of us think about the hotel accommodations and then the cost of gas. How much will you have to spend to get to where you are going? Is it close or far?

  • Restaurant meals
  • The attractions and entertainment
  • Fuel
  • Shopping
  • Drinks and snacks
  • The stops for unplanned attractions along the way.

Just know you will need extra for these pop ups, that just are not in the budget. They will show up, and especially on the drive to get to your destination.

I know because when I travelled, we found three more attractions that were not on the map. But we drove by them and just had to go and check them out. This was on our way to Revelstoke. So if it’s possible to save some, jump at the opportunity cause this just may happen to you too. I know I did, cause I had coupons from the campsite I was at for the place I was going too. I mentioned it to the owner and she gave me them.

Why I love to Travel for Less

Being able to save money, means I will have less stress. Some wiggle room in the money department, and easier to say yes to the kids when they ask for something.

So remember when your planning, doing some research before hand. Look at some attractions, and even look at their travel guide. For the area your going to, cause some may post something you may miss. Even local restaurants there are always good, and have specials for their visitors. The more I save on my travels the better, and I have more fun.

Money for some cold ice cream in the store, or even some more chips and drinks for movie night at the campsite. Yes, that was very real and since we just drove by that campsite, we forgot where it is. Great spot over near Revelstoke.

Remember, when your travelling, its not all about getting there. It is also about making the memories along the way.

Now Save Money While Dining

Food is so costly, and this sure does add up really fast. I know trying a new restaurant is always fun, but wow sure can drop a $100 really fast. Sometimes even more. I know we went and cut back on the side dishes in a fast food place, still paid $85 for it all, and no drinks either.

Here’s some ways you can save:

  • Look at the restaurant, and look for online deals and promos.
  • Mix some take out with getting your drinks at a store.
  • Take advantage of some local dinner deals and coupons.
  • Share large portions when you can.
  • Do some research also before you go.
  • I like to order pizza to the room and buy drinks in a store.

You know it may not sound like alot, but this little bit does add up. You may want to check this out, for some savings.

Stretch Your Travel Budget Even More

Helps to plan out your trip once you know where your going. Getting the best hotel or even best campsite, which ever your doing this time.

We all are different, and it does matter how many are coming on these travels. So try and make the most of your money you have in your budget. Have some fun, and save along the way.

Whether it be a weekend getaway, or a camping trip, or even a trip far away-6 hours away. Save where you can, even if it means, eating sandwiches for one meal. You would be surprised what that can do. Especially when your all exhausted and just not up to going inside a restaurant or even want to spend that money.

So just remember to plan your trip and explore all the ways to save. You will be shocked on how much you can save, and how to stretch the travel budget even more.

How My Family Saves When Travelling

Buy your drinks in the grocery store at home-bring ice cooler-with ice from home.

Make some drinks at home before you leave.

Bring sandwich fixing for your first lunch, or make them at home before you leave.

Plan to get pizza or some easy take out once at your destination.

Final Thoughts

Remember travel for less is possible. Just need to plan ahead and look at all your options. How far are you going to go for some savings, helping to ease the stress while on vacation. No worries about staying within budget.

After all, the goal is to have fun, make experiences and memories along the way. Not worrying about where every dollar is going. And knowing that you do have some wiggle room, for the things that do pop up.
