I have always wanted to try make a graphgan. If you know how to single crochet, slip stitch, double crochet, and can change colors of yarn. Then you have a good start on knowing how to make a graphgan. Plan your design in a graph, then just start doing it. Each square of your graph makes up a block or stitch. I would start small, that is what my plan is. I have not made one myself yet, I think it looks really nice. Next step into making another new blanket, with a design.
I think if you know a bit or even a little about cross-stitch then you already know what a graph is. Same concept, just that you want to crochet it instead.
How? Try Make A Graphgan
Basically, it is for each square of color to equal one square on a graph. But I think after you made your graph, you need to figure out how to make a small size. You don’t want your blanket to become huge. So I have seen some, that say, you just need to make a nice small graph picture.
Measurements
For SC (single crochet) R1-Chain 6, sc in 2nd chain from the hook and to the next 4 chains. Chain one and turn, R2 to row 6: sc, and at the end chain 1 and turn. Now, you would measure this and see how many stitches you need to reach 1″ Count how many rows you needed to get to 1″. Example 4 rows of 4 sc=1″.
But like I said, I have not done this myself. I think I will try a small one done in crochet thread #10. I will design something simple from a design off the internet. Make an easy little coaster for my water bottle on my desk.
Try Make A Graphgan- Cool Ideas
I like the idea of making one of a Unicorn. Maybe even a simple turtle design, but I think I should start easy first. Don’t go all out and have all these different colors. Too complicated, and if I don’t know how to make an easy design. I for sure can’t start creating a more complicated design. So easier the better and less of a headache also.
So start small, till you understand how these are made. Making it easier each time you try and make one. Or maybe this is something you would catch onto right away. I don’t know if I will, and I had a hard time following a graph for beading. But even though I struggled with that, I still want to try to make a graphgan. Cause if I can learn how to c2c, then I can make a graphgan. They also can be made in c2c also. But, I believe it may get too big. Because those blankets are made in double crochet in fours.
Whether You crochet or Knit
What do you prefer? Knit or crochet? We all do what feels comfortable for us. I used to knit more than I would crochet. But I don’t like how I drop stitches really easily when I knit. Gets me mad and I struggle with recovering my knit stitch. So I tried to do crocheting more. I like that more now, cause when I think about making a blanket that is what I do. I can make a c2c blanket in no time.
When I need to make a blanket I love doing a c2c blanket. I can do this while I watch tv, catching up with my PVR. Easily done and very relaxing for me too.
When you work from home and even though you love your work. We all need something for our own downtime. Just to relax and rest yourself. This is what I do, I found out I love crocheting more than knitting. No matter if you knit or crochet, make sure you enjoy it. Have a goal for your project and just look forward to the finished product.
