Struggling With Where to Start To Declutter?

Struggling with where to start to declutter we get frustrated and a little upset with ourselves. No need to do that, just start small and you will get it done. We always want to get it done right away, and really, it does take time.

It took time to get all this stuff into your house. Little by little items came in, you didn’t just add them all at once. It took day by day to get into your house. If you really think about it, you put some thought into the items you bought.

Why Is It Hard To Get Rid Of Items?

Normally, you would take time to get rid of the items you are thinking of getting rid of. Because these were either given to us, or we bought them. Now they just don’t seem to fit in the flow of my place now.

When these items came into the house, they didn’t really have a place to go. They were added because we liked them. Or even though we needed them. You bought it because you collect that item. Thought you needed another like item.

So many times we buy items because we like them. Or maybe they’re on sale or you just can’t ignore it.

Now give it too much thought when you buy it.

Then other times, we put so much thought into an item. Could be because it cost a lot of money, and we need to justify adding it to our house.

  • could we use it always
  • worth the cost?
  • where will it go?
  • will I remember I have it?
  • should I?
  • will someone be upset if I buy this?

No matter what your reasoning is in getting an item, it comes into your house now. So now you have so many items, that you need to figure where to start decluttering your house.

Why Do We Want To Start To Declutter Now?

  • someone else moving in?
  • you can’t move around?
  • getting tired of cleaning all the time?
  • too many things
  • takes too long to clean
  • tired of always moving things around
  • always organizing
  • have too many things
  • can’t find anything
  • where things go
  • don’t know where to put things?
  • don’t want people to come in and see your house.

Just to name a few things that I thought of when I wanted to start decluttering. I wasn’t ashamed of my place, but someone mentioned it. I have so many things in here. As she lived in a small house, and she thought she didn’t have a lot of things. She did, just not a bunch of little things like I do. Hers were bigger things, more blankets and pillows, and paintings. We all look at clutter differently.

Struggling with where to start to declutter can and will get easier as you go along.

We are all not the same. I think my place looks good. But yes I do need some order to the clutter. Now I mean, I need all things put exactly where I can find them right away. Not wandering around wondering where they are at the moment.

Where Did I Start?

I first started with something I always struggled with. Was finding a movie when I wanted to watch one. I started with the order of all my movies, I got rid of the ones I bought and never watched. Then onto ones, I never even knew I had, etc….

So I got all my movies in the correct order after I figured out which ones I was keeping. Ones I knew I loved and would watch. When that was done, I could organize them. I love how they look now and know exactly where any movie is now. You can get your decluttering started in little steps also. NO need to just right in and hope to get it all done in one day.

It takes time. You should give yourself some time and think about how you exactly want your place. How does it all make you feel, and how do you want to feel in your house. To make you happy to be inside it each and every day.

Remember ME Time!!!

I love to go for my walks and this is my me time. Time to relax before I start my whole day. I take this time out for myself and go for a half-hour walk 5 days a week. This would be a good way to start your day before you start your decluttering process. Take time for yourself.

When you start struggling with where to start to declutter. Just think of a spot or area you always look at, and start there. Could just be your kitchen table. Or even just your bathroom shelf. That is where I started yesterday. My morning routine was a bit of a headache. Cause of my struggle to find things in the morning.

So I started there, it didn’t take me long. Less than half an hour and way happier mornings now. Something I should have started a long time ago. Now I have no problem reaching my MRVL Beauty Products. The jars were so small that they took up a lot of space, so I added a small shelf above. So no more lost space anymore.
