I always thought I would never crochet. Why? My mom always was crocheting and I said I never would do that. It looked like it took too long, but she had the patience for it. I loved the chevron blanket she made for the couch. She was able to do complicated patterns like those and make them look so easy to make. I guess I always wanted to know how to crochet, just didn’t think I had the patience for it. But it is rather calming making crochet items for my house.
I do Crochet Now!
Now, I know I didn’t know how to crochet at first. I did learn some at school and from watching my mom. But mostly the other patterns I watched some videos on YouTube, are pretty easy to follow too. Did take a bit to get the hang of it, but I was determined to get it done and learn how. So I stuck with it and learned some easy patterns to use to make some simple blankets.
After I got tired of those, I went back to YouTube and learned different stitches. Was doing so great with those, that I was making some great blankets with them. Big enough to fit a queen-size bed and a double, or a simple throw. Even made a computer chair blanket, for when I work at my desk. So after I just made too many blankets for myself, I started to make some for friends. Which is what I am currently doing right now. To admit, I have just made too many blankets and just can’t use them all.
When I First Started
I needed a place to look and start making some random things with the yarn I had. So I looked up some stuff and I found this for free patterns. Hope this helps you to start crocheting on your own also. It gets easier as you do more things/patterns. Or even just dishcloths or some small pillows helps to know to count stitches and tension you have.
Why Did I Pick Crochet?
I guess I picked it mainly cause I like that I can pick up a stitch if I drop it. If I chose knitting, I would drop lots of stitches off the needle and the whole thing would be ruined. Very frustrating to say the least. I did start out with knitting, but I couldn’t manage to hang onto many stitches on a needle. So I didn’t think I liked that so I chose crocheting instead. Cause when I drop one I only lose one stitch at a time, not 200 stitches. Also, it is easier to change the color on them too.
So when I first started about ten years ago, I just started making small cat blankets. Then I thought it would be cute to make these amigurumi animals. Those were not hard either, once you learned the pattern on them. Once I got tired of making those so I started making my blankets, cause I saw how pretty the cat blankets looked. I bought all the yarn in the colors I loved and made my first throw for my bed. Everyone loved it and that is what got me making blankets for my family. They all loved the way they looked and felt.
While I was busy making these, I remembered. That I never thought I would crochet. But look at me now, and how many things I have made in the past years. Doing something I never thought I would do. I love crocheting and want to learn more stitches when I have some more time to create.
This Is A Good Way To Relax
I crochet when I am watching tv and just need to relax. I love to catch up on my recorded shows that are on my PVR. Cause I am busy working all day, on my computer. Even though I work from home, I am still quite busy. Don’t have enough time to crochet til the end of the day. But this is still great, cause I create something new.
Right now I have a lot of cotton thread and have doubled it to make it thicker for me. I made dishcloths with this and I love them. They dry really fast also, and so nice to use when I wash dishes. Now I am making a curtain for my sliding door. Simple easy double crochet stitch and this is a good way to use my thread. I will see my curtain every day and also use my cotton thread. An easy stitch for me to do and to be able to do without a pattern.
