Where to move my desk is what I have been trying to figure out the past few days. Moving a desk is easy to do when you have the space to move it anywhere. I really don’t have that. Then all the items on the desk and the computers also.
Is another task that goes with moving the desk. Moving a big piece of furniture is not that bad, as long as you have the help.
Things I think that are important for my desk area:
- lighting for the desk
- need space to move around
- access to a printer
- need my books close
- accessories for my work close to me
- quiet space
So Where Do I Move My Desk?
- in the kitchen?
- bedroom?
- or in the living room
I am still undecided to where my desk will go. I need to do the measurements for the space I am thinking of moving it. Sounds really easy, that was the plan for today. But it did not work that way. I looked at all the things on my desk, and basically gave up.
I didn’t want to move my desk at all. But I have to, I have a deadline for when it has to be moved. So less that a week to go to get it all done. But another thing is I forgot to say is I actually have 2 desks. I actually am using a 6 FT and 8 Ft Buffet table for desks. They work great. I just didn’t have them in the correct spot for them to work for me.
I kept moving my desk from area to area, and away from a window or towards a window. I even went and moved to a smaller hallway, that worked till someone needed to walk by me. Now, I have a great solution, only my desks and small table, and 2 small bookcases for all my desk things-pens and notebooks and markers.
Work Desk
I ended up buying a new desk, which actually works better than my old desk. Cause this one is L-shaped and my chair slides right beside it easily. I have a writing side and a side for my computer and monitor which works for me. My other desk had a window behind it, which gave me a headache. This one actually places me on the side with the window on my left now. More space and writing room and it has metal legs. More legroom and it feels way better also. So this may be the solution I may need.
But it was clear that that desk did not work for me. I just gave that desk to my daughter, and it works for her. I bought myself a buffet table, a 6 FT one to start and it worked for me. But I needed a bigger table space, so I found a $20 8FT buffet table. Then I decided to keep both of them, and have one now as a puzzle table. It is for my puzzle and my other computer and my stereo. Lots leg room and they are very sturdy and way better price too.
How To Make Your Desk Work For You!
Still a work in progress, I am trying to figure that part out. I need to be able to go straight to work, without stressing out. I need all my things close to hand, but not cluttered. I have decided to put a wire tall shelf close to my desk for my things.
I have my pens and pencils in a cup. Books on there and my printer paper. Some reference papers on there also. Random junk- sticky notes, paperclips, scotch tape, pencil sharpener. I found that a small bookcase stores all my desk things. Ones I use are in a slide out drawer under my table.
But my desk, needs my iPad charge cord and cord to charge headphones. My keyboard and notepads and my drink. So now I have that room, cause all my things I used to have on my desk are now in the bookcase. Close to me and it clears up my desk area too.
But I also have my small stereo on my desk too. So I can listen to music while I am looking up things online, or just to listen too. I now have this placed at the far end of my desk and I can use it with my remote control. My desk is nice and clear and doesn’t feel cluttered anymore. All thanks to just adding a small bookcase with doors. This is still in my space, but has cleared up my space. Simple easy solution and am wondering why did I not think of it sooner! Probably cause it was being used for something else.
But now I am looking at things more different. Mainly cause my space has opened up more, now that my daughter has moved next door and made more space in my home. Now I am not looking for where to move my desk.
How To Get Past Stressing Over The Mess!!!
The mess is the junk that does not belong on my desk. I have snacks and random pens. Random pens, cause I like using all different colours when I take notes. And have a habit to just throw on the desk. Also, random scrap papers too. I found that I will always do this, and I need to start cleaning my desk at the end of the day.
I also color in my coloring books too, which get thrown on there too. So it is meant to calm me but stresses me out at times too. Mainly cause I see them making a mess on my desk. So when I am not using them I put back in the bookcase. Away and out of sight. Works great.
Seems to spiral, like I need to make room for it. Need to move something to have it on my shelf. Seems like that is how it is all over my house. To put something in another spot I need to make room first. Which means moving items around. Then I turn around and there is no where to move it at all.
Because of the clutter that I see in my house. So it has lead me to start decluttering. I have tackled my kitchen and bathroom and linen closet. They do look nice and tidy, and almost no clutter. When I wrote this, I thought this worked. But I am right back to where I started. I still have junk and still need to make my space work. I see where I went wrong and how I actually look at my things. I need to just keep the things I actually use and not just keep for just in case.
