As the Fraser River is always changing with rising waters and low waters.

Gold Panning in British Columbia the Fraser River Gold Rush

Gold Panning here in Lillooet,B.C. was a great thing back in the Gold Rush Days.

British Columbia remains one of the largest gold-producing provinces in all of Canada. Of particular interest to many prospectors today is the commonality of placer gold that are in many creeks and rivers. To be found by simply panning and sluicing the water beds of the rivers. In the early gold rush days, mining for gold on the Fraser River is one of the best gold mining spots to be had.

Cayoosh Creek

This is another good place to pan for gold. This is in Lillooet and comes in and goes out the Fraser River. I really don’t know exactly where this mainly generates from. But I know it is here in Lillooet, and I have seen some gold pan here also. Mainly cause they say that gold panning in British Columbia is good and this is one of the recommended spots.

This was a good gold mining area in the early days of mining in B.C. The first time gold was discovered in the creek was in 1897. Then this lead to a small gold rush that lasted between 1897-1901. When this ended the creek was separated into two important gold mines: The Golden Cache Mine on the north and the Ample Mine on the south. Now this area is also surrounded by many hills and you can find many creeks where gold can still be found sometimes.

Now, we do have a great museum here that shows some of the gold panning things that were used. Back in the day, the sluice they used. Even what people used to cook with and what they did things in their everyday life. So what ever happened in the history of Lillooet can be found at the local museum. Tourists are sent to the museum when they are looking for the full history of Lillooet and Gold Rush Days.
